Chambra d'Oc 2015

> See details of Grains of Gold: an anthology of Occitan literature

James Thomas, editor of Grains of Gold: an anthology of Occitan literature, and London publisher Clive Boutle recently received awards from Chambra d'Oc in Piedmont, Italy, for their work with minority European languages.

James received an award for the Occitan anthology, Clive for his work as a publisher of regional and endangered European languages. The awards were presented in Ostana, an Occitan-speaking community in the foothills of the Alps, in a 5-day festival of literature in Occitan, Corsican, Armenian and Tutunaku (Mexico).

Clive Boutle is the the director of Francis Boutle Publishers, publishers of the Lesser Used Languages of Europe series of anthologies – seven in all, so far – of which Grains of Gold is the most recent.

It is the first time Chambra d'Oc have given an award to a publisher.

James Thomas is a freelance translator of Catalan and Occitan.

Normally associated with the troubadours, Occitan is a language still spoken in southern and south-central France (Provence, Languedoc, Gascony, etc), Piedmont in Italy, and the Val d'Aran in Catalonia.

We publish anthologies in Galician, Manx, Esperanto, the Norman languages of the Channel Islands, Breton, Maltese and Occitan.
